What is long distance stretcher transportation?
Long distance stretcher transportation moves a patient who can't sit up for a trip (lying down the entire way) in a medical vehicle with a trained professional on board. At ACC Medlink, that means a real bed on a memory-foam mattress, not a bare gurney, from their bedside to the one waiting at the other end.
That last part is the whole difference. Plenty of vehicles can carry a stretcher. Most are an empty metal box with a gurney bolted to the floor. Fine for twenty minutes across town, miserable for twelve hours across four states.

Families usually try the familiar options first. A wheelchair van assumes he can sit upright, strapped in a chair, for hours. He can't. The family SUV means propping him across a back seat with pillows, no medical help aboard, while a relative white-knuckles the interstate for two days. Those aren't cheaper versions of the same thing. They're the wrong tool.

Bed to bed, lying down

What the trip feels like from the bed
- Pickup
Here's the ride from his side of it. The crew arrives at his room and does the transfer themselves. He's lifted once, gently, onto the bed in the van. From that moment he doesn't sit up again unless he wants to.
- On the road
The mattress is memory foam, and the entertainment system is overhead if he feels like a movie. Your seat is right beside him, close enough to hold his hand, with a bed to rest on when you need it. The medical professional keeps his medications on schedule and checks on him without his having to ask.
- Overnight
When night comes, the two drivers rotate and the van keeps moving safely while he sleeps. Actually sleeps, flat, in a bed. He closes his eyes in one state and opens them two states closer to home.
