Wesley Weysham, Retired Firefighter and our own Medic died helping crash victim

On Sunday, February 24th, we lost a dear friend and medical professional Wesley Weysham. Wesley had been working with ACC Medlink for a while and was loved by our crew, patients, and their families alike. He was one of our best and most caring medics and will be missed immensely.

The accident happened around 4:30 a.m. when a 32-year-old driver who authorities suspected had been driving under the influence stopped his truck in the far left lane of southbound Interstate 75 near the U.S. 301 exit in the Tampa area. That’s when someone didn’t see the parked truck and hit it.

Weysham was driving on I75 when he came across a scene he was familiar with. Weysham parked his vehicle and went to give medical assistance. It was during this time that another driver didn’t see the initial accident and crashed his car into the truck, which fatally hit Weysham.

Wesley was a Navy veteran, retired firefighter, and member of Sarasota K9 Search & Rescue. Wesley always put others first, even without regard for his own safety. His untimely death is a great loss to his family and friends.

Wes was a valued member of our ACC Medlink crew and will be remembered as an honorable, caring person. We will always remember him as our friend and his presence will be missed.
