What is private medical transport?

Private medical transport is long-distance medical transport that you hire and pay for directly: you pick the company, you approve the price, and a medical vehicle with a real bed and a trained professional aboard takes your loved one door to door. No eligibility paperwork, no waiting on a program to approve the trip, no dispatcher deciding who drives.

That's the whole point of "private": control. You're not stuck with whoever a system assigns. You choose the vehicle your mother rides in, the crew beside her bed, and the day she travels. Our Mercedes Sprinters carry a real bed on a memory-foam mattress, oxygen, and a seat and a bed for family, right beside the patient. It's non-emergency medical transport done bed to bed, on your schedule.

Two drivers rotate so the vehicle keeps moving safely while your loved one sleeps. No airports, no gate agents, no strangers you didn't choose.

The question behind the question

Looking for a private ambulance service? Here's the straight answer.

For a non-emergency, long-distance trip, a private ambulance you hire yourself is exactly what our Mercedes Sprinters are: a real bed for the patient, oxygen aboard, and a trained medical professional beside them the whole way, without the emergency-room pricing that comes with a 911-style ambulance ride.

A traditional ambulance is built for one job: short, urgent runs to the nearest hospital. Put a patient in one for 900 miles and you're paying emergency-grade rates for a narrow cot and a vehicle that was never meant to be lived in for a day. Our vans are built for the long haul instead: among the most spacious vehicles in long-distance medical transport, with room for a full bed, equipment, and the family member riding along.

  • You hire us directlyNo dispatch system, no middleman, and the quote you approve is the price you pay.
  • Same medical essentialsBed, oxygen, medications on schedule, a trained professional aboard.
  • Built for distanceMemory-foam mattress, two rotating drivers, a seat and a bed for family right beside the patient.

One thing we'll always say plainly: if this is a medical emergency (chest pain, trouble breathing, a sudden change) call 911 now. A private ambulance is the tool for planned trips, never for emergencies.

What arranging your own medical transport actually looks like

  1. Monday

You've been comparing companies for your father's 800-mile move home. You call us, ask every hard question (who owns the vehicle, who's in the back, what it costs) and get straight answers plus a same-day quote. You approve it. That number is final.

  2. Wednesday, 8:00 a.m.

The van in the driveway is ours. The crew at the door is ours: the same company you vetted on the phone, not some other outfit you've never heard of. They transfer your father onto the bed themselves; you don't lift anything. Your brother climbs into the seat beside him, with a bed to rest on when he needs it.

  3. Wednesday, all day

The attendant keeps medications on schedule, checks on him, adjusts the bed. He naps. Your brother sends the family group chat a photo of him actually comfortable for the first time in weeks.

  4. Overnight

The drivers rotate and the van keeps moving safely through the night while he sleeps on a memory-foam mattress. Nobody in your family is white-knuckling an interstate at 2 a.m.

  5. Thursday afternoon

The team settles him into his own bedroom, walks your sister through the medication schedule, and hands off exactly the way they received him: bed to bed.

How booking private medical transport works

  1. 1

    Call us once

Tell us the two addresses and the travel date. You'll have a same-day quote. The quote you approve is the price you pay.

  2. 2

    We plan everything

Our coordinator handles the medical details (records, medications, oxygen, timing) and works directly with the hospital's discharge planner if there is one.

  3. 3

    Arrival, bed to bed

Our own crew, our own vehicle, door through door. They handle every lift and settle your loved one in at the other end: home, family, or the facility that's expecting them.

The part most "private" listings won't say out loud

Many "private transport" companies don't own a single vehicle

A lot of what ranks for "private medical transport" is a dispatch desk: they take your booking, then shop your mother's trip to whichever outfit bids cheapest. You chose a company; she rides with a stranger. The "private" part (knowing exactly who shows up) is the part they quietly give away.

We own every Mercedes Sprinter in our fleet and every crew is our own team: the coordinator on the phone, the two rotating drivers, and the medical professional beside the bed. One company, one standard, the whole route. Fully licensed, with over ten million patient miles since 2010.

  • Ask any company this one question"Do you own the vehicle my family will ride in?" We do, every one.
  • 200-mile minimum, no upper limitState-to-state trips are our everyday work.
  • Dementia or anxietyPatients with dementia or anxiety are our normal week.

Honest answers before you commit

Is private long-distance transport the right call? Sometimes it isn't.

We do one thing (long-distance) so we have no reason to talk you into the wrong service. The honest fit test:

We fit when…

  • The trip is 200 miles or more, up to coast to coast
  • They can't sit upright for hours: our vans carry a real bed
  • You want to choose the company and know exactly who shows up
  • Family wants to ride along the whole way

A local provider fits when…

  • The trip is under 200 miles (we do long-distance only)
  • It's a recurring around-town run: dialysis, appointments, day trips
  • A wheelchair van is enough and no bed is needed

Call 911 when…

  • It's an emergency: chest pain, trouble breathing, a fall, a sudden change
  • Minutes matter. A private ambulance is for planned trips, never emergencies

Not sure which fits? That's what the phone call is for: describe the situation and we'll tell you straight, including when the answer is "not us."

Questions families ask before booking privately

Private medical transport questions

Don't see yours? Call. A real person on our team answers, day or night.

More questions answered →

How much does private medical transport cost?
It depends on distance, the level of care required, and crew. It's private-pay, and you'll have a same-day quote before you decide anything. The quote you approve is the price you pay, with no surprise line items after the trip. CareCredit financing is available, and we offer veteran discounts. See how long-distance transport pricing works →
What does "private-pay" actually mean?
It means you book directly with us and pay us directly: no program eligibility, no third-party approval process, no waiting. You decide the trip happens, and it happens on your schedule. Most families find that's exactly why they searched for "private" in the first place.
Is a private ambulance the same as a 911 ambulance?
No. A 911 ambulance is for emergencies: short, urgent runs at emergency-grade pricing. A private ambulance is a medical vehicle you hire yourself for a planned, non-emergency trip. For long-distance moves, that's what our Sprinters are: a real bed, oxygen, and a medical professional aboard, priced for a planned trip. If it's an emergency, call 911.
Can family ride along?
Yes. Family rides right beside the patient, with a real seat and a bed to rest on for the whole trip. Most families send one or two people.
Do you do local trips?
No. We're long-distance only, with a 200-mile minimum and no upper limit. For around-town runs like dialysis or appointments, a local provider is the right tool. For state-to-state and cross-country moves, that's us.
How fast can a trip happen?
Often within days. Tell us the date you need and we work backward from it. Hospital discharge deadlines are normal for us. Phones are answered 24/7 at 800-550-1025.
